As one of the longest-standing mountain guide associations in the Eastern Alps, our deep connection to the Großglockner region is at the heart of everything we do. Since the very beginnings of alpinism, we have been leading our guests to the summits of the Hohe Tauern and the Alps. Our members, introduced individually below, are exclusively state-certified mountain and ski guides, all at home in the mountains of the Großglockner region. With training and local knowledge at the highest level, we offer mountain experiences all year round and look forward to sharing the most beautiful moments with you on the Großglockner and throughout the Alps.
For us, tradition means passing on the flame, not worshipping the ashes.
In keeping with this motto by Jean Jaurès, we maintain our traditional dress and wear it, together with our association flag, at both religious and secular festivals. Our flag patroness, Barbara, is always a charming companion on these occasions. As a non-profit association, the Bergführerverein Heiligenblut also plays an important role in promoting alpinism in the region. We support the training of young mountaineers and are actively involved in building and maintaining alpine infrastructure. We help maintain the Großkirchheim climbing tower and the Heiligenblut ice climbing park, and work together with the Alpenverein (Austrian Alpine Club) on hiking trails, alpine paths, and safety installations in the mountains around Heiligenblut.Many of our members are also active mountain rescuers, providing valuable support in alpine emergencies. For many years, our mountain guides have provided voluntary training within the mountain rescue service, working closely with this local rescue organization. The state leadership of Bergrettung Kärnten (Carinthia Mountain Rescue) also relies on the training expertise of the Heiligenblut mountain guides, and several of us are members of the Carinthia training team.The expertise of our guides also benefits the Alpenverein section Großkirchheim/Heiligenblut, as well as private businesses such as the Großglockner High Alpine Road, Sportladen Heiligenblut, the Großglockner Snow Sport School, the Heiligenblut Ski School, and Berg im Bild OG. The Heiligenblut Tourism Board has been a long-standing partner of the Heiligenblut mountain guides, and we are happy to place our tour bookings in the capable hands of their staff.In the interest of avalanche safety in the upper Möll Valley, several of our members serve on the avalanche commissions of Heiligenblut, Großkirchheim, and Mörtschach, contributing their voluntary work to maintaining infrastructure during exceptional snow conditions.The social side of things is not neglected either: the Bergführerverein Heiligenblut organizes and co-hosts the traditional Seilrennen (rope race) and the Bergfexenball (mountaineers' ball) in Heiligenblut.
