The Old Kalser Route is one of the two normal routes to the Großglockner. The beautiful Ködnitztal, with its very well-maintained infrastructure and cozy huts, is a destination for the whole family. For ambitious mountaineers, the guided route from the Stüdlhütte over the Ködnitzkees to the Erzherzog-Johann Hütte, also known as Adlersruhe, leads the way. Here, the normal routes from Heiligenblut and Kals converge and lead to Austria's highest peak, the Großglockner.
Requirements:
Good acclimatization and physical preparation, stamina for 300 meters of ascent per hour, sure-footedness, rock climbing experience beneficial but not essential.
The hike begins at Lucknerhaus (1918m) and independently leads via the Lücknerhütte to the Stüdlhütte (2801m). From there, the guided tour proceeds to Adlersruhe (3451m) and the summit of Großglockner (3798m). Descent is the same as the ascent. For overnight stays, Adlersruhe or Stüdlhütte are available on this tour.
