Who doesn't know the distinctive Hahnenkamm "behind" the Großglockner! And from afar, you wouldn't guess what awaits on the Glocknerwand traverse. A long and demanding tour with a Western Alps character, 11 peaks, several abseiling points, numerous smaller crags to climb over, and finally the highest point in Austria awaits us! Very good stamina and experience on rock ridges like the Stüdlgrat are prerequisites for the success of this tour. Additionally, you must be patient enough to wait for a stable day of good weather, as bad weather breaks or thunderstorm risks are a no-go for this tour.
Requirements:
Good acclimatization and physical preparation, stamina for 500 meters/hour, surefootedness, rock climbing experience, experience on alpine ridges like the Stüdlgrat.
The hike begins at Lucknerhaus at 1918m and independently follows the route via the Lücknerhütte to the Stüdlhütte at 2801m. Meeting point in the evening. In the morning, the guided tour continues over the Teischnitzkees to the start of the Glocknerwand at Teufelskamp at about 3560m. From here, the route leads for several hours, exposed over all the rock towers of the Glocknerwand to the lower Glocknerscharte at 3596m. From here, the route is the same as the North-West Ridge tour with Teufelshorn. Over this and the Glocknerhorn at 3680m and the North-West Ridge to the summit of the Großglockner at 3798m. Descent via the normal route to Adlersruhe and the Ködnitzkees back to the Stüdlhütte.
