West Alpine feeling on the north side of the Glockner. The Meletzkigrat is the northern counterpart to the Stüdlgrat. With the crossing of the Pasterze at the beginning of the tour, the block terrain afterwards, and then over the exposed ridge, this tour includes varied sections. The ridge ends gently below the Kleinglockner, giving a great insight into the summit ascent planned for the next day. The tour as a whole is one of the most beautiful undertakings on Austria's highest mountain and is a great alternative to the normal routes, but this variant requires a bit more rock experience and good fitness. The "truly" fit mountaineers can also consider our new Großglockner - North-South program!
Requirements:
Good acclimatization and physical preparation, stamina for 400 meters/hour, surefootedness, and some rock climbing experience.
From Kaiser-Franz-Josefs Höhe at 2350m, you will descend with the mountain guide to Pasterze at 2100m and then ascend on the opposite side towards Hoffmannskees. At Frühstücksplatz (Breakfast Place) at 2796m, the ridge climbing begins, ending directly below the Kleinglockner. Overnight at Adlersruhe at 3451m and the next day, ascent to the summit of the Großglockner via the normal route. Descent to Salmhütte at 2644m. The guided tour ends there, and the descent to Glocknerhaus at 2136m and return to Kaiser-Franz-Josefs Höhe is self-organized.
