The relaxed glacier 3000m peak in the heart of the Glockner Group. From Franz-Josefs-Höhe via the Gamsgrubenweg, this glacier mountain is very easy to reach. Despite moderate terrain and simple paths, the constant presence of the Glockner north face and the fantastic glacier surroundings is a real highlight for the whole family or leisurely mountaineers. Although there are few technical difficulties (with the exception of crevasse danger and the secured path to the Oberwalderhütte) awaiting the participants, one should not underestimate the approximately 1000 meters in vast, high alpine terrain above the 3000-meter mark in terms of physical requirements.
Requirements:
Stamina for 200 meters/hour
The hike begins at Kaiser-Franz-Josefs Höhe at 2350m and leads over the Gamsgrubenweg to Wasserfall-Winkelkees at 2700m. From there, it continues on the summer or winter path to the Oberwalderhütte at 2972m, where a refreshment stop awaits. Optionally, the summit of the middle Bärenkopf at 3357m can also be reached via the Bockkarscharte and Keilscharte, and then descend to the Oberwalderhütte. Depending on conditions and weather, the optimal route is chosen.
