The first ascent took place on this route in 1800. Starting from the Großglockner High Alpine Road the path leads from the Glocknerhaus via the very quiet and unique Leitertal to the Salmhut. From there you climb over the wind gap of Hohenwartscharte, the Hofmanns-Glacier and the Salmkamp-Ridgeline to the Archduke Johann Hut, also known as Adlersruhe. Here the normal routes of Heiligenblut and Kals unite and lead to Austria's highest peak, the Großglockner. For the connoisseurs among you, we recommend the special program Großglockner Relax.
Requirements:
Good acclimatization and conditional preparation (condition for 300 Hm / h), surefootedness, rock climbing experince advantageous but not absolutely necessary.
The hike starts at the Glocknerhaus 2136m and leads independently over the Vienna Höhenweg to the Salmhütte 2644m. From there it goes as part of the tour to the Adlersruhe 3451m and the summit of the Großglockner 3798m. Descent like ascent. See downloads for details. The Adlersruhe or the Salmhütte are available as overnight stays on this tour.
